Service as a Major in the Israel Defense Forces
Amir Tsarfati began his professional career in the Israeli military. After completing his mandatory service in the Israel Defense Forces (IDF), he continued serving in the reserves and rose to the rank of Major. His leadership and coordination duties brought him into direct contact with security and regional governance issues.
His military career included administrative and liaison positions during sensitive operations, giving him a distinctive understanding of Middle Eastern geopolitics. By the time he left full-time service, his IDF experience had established him as a disciplined leader with extensive knowledge of Israel’s defense landscape.
Founding and Leading the Behold Israel Ministry
Tsarfati founded Behold Israel in 2001, drawing on his background in Israel and the military, and has served as its President ever since. Under his leadership, the ministry grew from a small teaching outreach into a registered nonprofit organization.
Behold Israel’s stated mission is to provide reliable news coverage and Bible-centered teaching about Israel and the Middle East. Tsarfati oversees an international team that produces daily video updates, written analyses, and educational resources. He has also directed the development of a media network that includes the organization’s website and mobile app, where he provides live updates on events in Israel.
As President, Tsarfati directs Behold Israel’s overall strategy and works to ensure that the organization fulfills its calling to explain current affairs in light of Scripture. His leadership remains central to its identity as a global platform for biblical instruction and news commentary.
Bible Teaching Through Ministry-Led Educational Tours
Before and after founding Behold Israel, Tsarfati developed a career in Israeli tourism that combined education and travel. After his military service, he studied at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem’s School of Tourism.
He later worked as a licensed tour guide for Sar-El Tours & Conferences, leading Christian groups throughout Israel for roughly twenty years. He advanced to the position of chief tour guide and eventually became CEO of Sar-El Tours & Conferences, overseeing the logistics and educational content of numerous Holy Land trips.
Tsarfati later brought this tourism experience to Behold Israel’s tour programs. Under his direction, the ministry organizes “Bible Experience” tours and cruises, offering immersive itineraries across Israel that combine visits to key biblical sites with on-site teaching.
Tsarfati personally leads parts of these tours, interpreting historical locations from the Sea of Galilee to Jerusalem within the context of the Bible. This combination of travel and Scripture has become a defining part of his work, allowing participants to “see the Bible come to life” through his commentary at each stop.
